Local Walks

Special Walk (4 miles)

The area around Balls Cross is literally teeming with walks. There is no shortage of both common land and public footpaths and bridleways. In fact the area probably boasts the highest density of "walkable" land south of the Pennines!South_Downs.JPG (62859 bytes)

Two of the most interesting walks are; The South Downs Way and

Ebernoe Common, which is a large area of primeval woodland now a Natural Heritage site, used for many years by villagers for grazing livestock. Twice it has been a fairly major industrial site - iron working in the 16th century and bricks in the 18th century. There are numerous rare flora in the wood. If you do not know the common, take a compass with you. It is quite easy to get lost!

Special Walk from the pub - 4 miles round trip!
